Holiday Greetings

Rancho Sierra Golf Course
Christmas Newsletter

Hi Everyone,

I know it's wet and rainy out there. I guess whatever floats your boat (I know, bad joke). With weather like this, pretty much the only thing you can actually do golf-related is practice your putting on the carpet. When I was a kid, I loved miniature golf. In North Carolina, "Putt Putt" golf was the rage. They even had a professional tour and televised the matches!

To celebrate this, I would create my own miniature golf course in the house, complete with obstacles, drops, jumps, and other interesting things. It was kind of like hot wheels meets miniature golf.  Great fun on a rainy or snowy day and you don't want to fight the elements at the local course.

Another fun thing you can do inside that is golf-related is watch golf videos. I came across the following really interesting video. It's a bartender telling stories about Mo Norman who, despite being largely unknown, was arguably the world’s best golfer ever. Sorry it's embedded in an advertisement for a type of liquor, but if you're interested, click here.  I found it amazing and very entertaining.

We should finally see some sun Thursday-Saturday, so maybe we can get out and get some exercise without getting wet.

I hope you have a great holiday season, and hit the ball like Mo. BTW, If you want to use a bottle for a tee like Mo, I would suggest a plastic bottle.

News From the Clubhouse

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year! and Happy Hanukkah!

What a year it has been! It went by so fast. It seems like only yesterday we were getting ready for Fathers Day and here it is Christmas time. If you have your shopping done, presents wrapped and under the tree and find some spare time, come out to the course and golf. You still have time to purchase a gift certificate for the golfer who has everything or the ones who you don't have a clue of what to buy. Buy a $50.00 gift certificate and you receive a free round of 9 holes including the cart. Also there is still time to bring in that unwrapped toy and those cans of food. They all go to a worthy cause. We have plenty of ball retrievers on hand. We also have golf balls, towels and little items for those stocking stuffers. We will be opened Christmas eve day the 24th up until 2:00 PM so there is still time. We will be closed Christmas day and open back up on December 26 at the regular time.

We will be open on New Years day at 9:00 AM. Lately with all the frost delays that is about the time we are sending players out. Since there may be some remaining patches of ice, please be careful walking off the greens that are in the shade as they are slippery and we don't want to see anyone getting hurt.

Sunday's men's club went back to starting at 8:30 AM and the Tuesday and Thursday midway club start at 9:00 AM. The Wednesday women's group starts at 9:00 AM. All will stay at those times until the weather gets warmer.

It's not too late to start booking a tee time for the new year! What a great way to start off a year golfing with your friends or family. Cold? After playing, we have hot chili , polish dogs and regular hot dogs cooking and hot coffee or hot chocolate. Come inside eat and warm up.

For those wanting to improve their golfing vocabulary here are a few terms that you may or may not know. Lets start with the letter C for Christmas the word is CAN- which means to hole a putt! M for Merry the word is Medalist- The player with the lowest qualifying score in a tournament.

Did you know that in the 1989 U.S. Open at Oak Hills golf course four golfers hit aces on the same par-three hole in one day. Also that 200 million golf balls are lost every year! I think I contribute a few of those.

The staff here at Rancho Sierra Golf Course wants everyone to have a safe and happy holiday and we hope to see you out here golfing with your new clubs, balls and equipment.
