I remember a couple of month ago when people at Rancho Sierra were lamenting the fact that it was unseasonable cool. Well, I was at the golf course yesterday and I heard none of that. It was a beautiful calm day, but the triple digit temperature make us long for those cooler days. I guess the grass is always greener ...
Speaking of green grass, the course is in very good shape for mid summer, a oasis in the desert. Come on out and check it out for yourself. The most beautiful time of day is just after dawn and in the late afternoon near dusk. I favor the morning since it is cool, the air is usually calm, and the course is glistening from the night watering. However, both are great times to play a round.
Shirley's Corner - News From the Clubhouse
Note: This month Shirley's corner is written by Tracy, John & Adam, the other starters at the golf course. Shirley's husband Bob suffered a stroke, and Shirley is taking time off.
Well, it’s summer already and things are starting to heat up. But, no worries, the course is still in great shape! We can thank our guys outside for that, they spend a lot of time with water hoses in hand. Although its warm, we are still getting a fair amount of play, especially in the mornings, so to make sure you have the best golfing experience, please remember to book your tee times. This time of year we do provide cold towels to help keep you cool, all you have to do is ask. We also have “Blu Bandoo” cooling headwear available for purchase in the clubhouse. Just wet and wear to stay cool! Make sure to enjoy a cold drink in the clubhouse too. Usually a nice breeze comes up about noon, so it’s really not bad at all out there. You can always resort to shade golf….. you know where you play the tree lines. Oh wait, some of us do that year around!?!? [->Tracy].
Well we have had a few tournaments out here recently. They have all gone smoothly and were a lot of fun. We still have more to come, so keep an eye on the “Big Board” in the clubhouse for dates and times. The Sheriff’s Boosters just had theirs here on the 10th, and love it every year.
We are also gearing up for our annual glowball tournament, which will likely be held in Early September. These are a blast!! Keep your eyes and ears open. We will provide information through both the website and the clubhouse.
One last thing, our hearts go out to Bob and Shirley. You are in our thoughts and prayers. Bob, we wish you a speedy recovery. I know everyone feels the same, if there is anything we can do to help please just ask.

Tips from The Pro - Stewart Cink on Playing with Feel
Even though I was rooting for Tom Watson, Stewart Cink defied the odds and won the British Open this year, I thought he should have the honor of being in the Rancho Sierra Newsletter. See Stewart's tips on how to hit those tough shots when the tournament is on the line and a thousand things are going through your head.
It's mid summer at Rancho Sierra, and that means Rick, Cliff, John, and Cody are all busy making sure the course gets enough water to stay green. From what I saw yesterday (7/25), the course looks very green. This is a testament to all their hard work.
Let's not forget Pedro, who almost single-handedly keeps the greens, tee boxes, fairways and roughs mowed. This is a tall order, expecially in the summer when the grass grows vigorously.
Rick is also working on patching the holes in the driving range nets, working on the greens, cutting holes, keeping the equipment in shape, and lots of other tasks, such as setting the course up for tournaments.
Thanks guys for all the incredibly hard and hot work!
Thanks for Your Patronage
Here's a little token of our appreciation for reading the newletter.
In closing, I though I would share with you a recent email Bob Gonzales received from a new Men's club member:
Thank's Bob. The first round of golf I ever played was at Rancho Sierra back in the late seventies with my dad and brother. I used to ride the bus past the course everyday on the way to and from Eastside school. Got chased off one summer night with the neighbor kids while trying to sneak in to dive for balls. We ran all the way home and never looked back. Even snuck a pocket fisherman in on a slow morning to catch 2 bass on three casts. The good old days. I appreciate the time I get to spend on tuesday and thursday mornings golfing with pop and the rest of his pals. Everyone has made me feel very welcome.

Come out to Rancho Sierra soon and make a nice memory!
