Hi Everyone,

Summer has now officially started. Call me crazy, but I really like summer in the Antelope Valley. However, I am an early riser. There's something about the peace of the desert in the morning just after the sun has come up. The golf course is damp from the nightly watering, and it is cool and quiet.  If you don't mind getting up early, try it and see for yourself.

News From the Clubhouse

We hope every father had a great day and spent it golfing out here at Rancho Sierra Golf Course. The weather was great and everyone who came out and golfed had a good time.

We will be having our 6th Annual Glowball tournament on August 28. If you haven' t played in a glowball tournament you should know that it is a blast. If you try it, you will definitely want to play again. We will be carting the first 9 then dinner and a raffle and then we will play the back 9 in the dark, walking. The course is lit up and you play with glowballs and glow necklaces. Kind of looks like Star Wars!  We have all the information posted at the course or ask one of the starters. Please register early as it fills up fast.  Check our web site - www.ranchosierragolf.com - for more information

We have a twitter account and most every day something is posted, along with the post we have a secret word which if mentioned when you come out here gets you something free. Lunch, range balls, fountain drink, free back 9 with paid front, sleeve of balls. Come and follow us on Twitter. To check it out, add @ranchosierragc tweets to your twitter account or simply check out www.twitter.com/ranchosierragc every morning.

We have two new employee's here at the course. Outside we have Leland Regalado. He is working 3 days doing helping Rich water. Inside we have Jann Maestas. Please say hi and make them feel welcomed to the course.

Inside the pro shop we have purchased a new ball it is a Srixon Z Star Tour (yellow) for those who like to hit a non-traditional ball. Also by popular demand, we now have Putter Fingers. You put them on the end of your putter so you don't have to bend down to pick up your golf ball after you sink that 30 foot put. If you would like us to carry certain items please feel free to suggest it to one of the starters inside and we will try to bring them into the pro shop. We are also collecting used balls for the soldiers over seas. Those on leave that play out here have mentioned that when they have down time they like to hit balls and really appreciate all those donating balls and clubs.

Please be careful around the course periphery. We are still having snake sightings. Please keep your shots on the fairways and greens (wish I could do that) and do not go off the course into the brush looking for your golf ball.

Golf Joke of the Month: Joe E. Lewis once said " I play in the low 80's if it gets any hotter then that I don't play"

Have a great day golf as much as you can and have fun doing it!

Take care all and stop in and let us know what you think of our monthly newsletter while on your wait to play golf.

Men's Club News

The weather is getting warm, the days are long. Plenty of time to get in a quick round of golf before or after work. If you like to golf but have a problem getting up some of your buddies to be available all at the same time, then you may want to consider playing with the Rancho Sierra Mens Club. No need to have a foursome, we’ll put you in one. No need to reserve a tee time, you’ve already got one! Membership is only $45 and entitles you to reduced green fees and membership in the Southern California Golf Association. You’ll also be given a genuine handicap so that you can measure your progress and compete evenly with other golfers. See the starter for details.

Tee Time Changes

Both the Sunday and Midweek Clubs have changed their tee times. Sunday group is now teeing off at 7 am. The Midweek group is now teeing off a 8 am. Please check in at least 10 minutes prior so that we can organize the groups going out. If you’re running late (or overslept) give the course a call and we’ll get you entered in the tournament for the day. If you are late and do not call, you may still play but you will not be eligible for any payouts that day and you will go out in the last group.

Points Tournaments

The Sunday Group had their mid-year Points Tournament on June 13. 18 golfers qualified and were split into three flights. Here are the winners:

Low Flight
1st place tie - John Yates 63
Bud Bryant 63

Middle Flight -
1st place - Dominic Falco 63
2nd place - Joey Chewning 65

High Flight -
1st place - Ray Fontaine 60
2nd place - Bob Gonzales 65

Congratulations to the winners and thanks to all who qualified: Paul Bergerner, Tony Abrams, Sal Herrera, Jacques Arnold, Mike Villa, Bobby Griffin, David Smith, Tracy Yates, Alan Hegwood, Harold Maute, Jim Jucksch, and Mike Brannon.

Upcoming Events

The Summer Classic in August, The Presidents Cup, and another away trip in September! We’re looking into Laughlin, Primm, Mesquite, Palm Springs, and Crystalaire Country Club. Details to be announced.

Now on a personal note. The Sons of American Legion are hosting a Golf Fundraising Tournament to benefit the AV Cancer Center and the American Cancer Society. I am sponsoring a hole in honor of my beloved Jenny who passed away last August from breast cancer. Some of the Mens Club Members are also sponsoring a hole. The format is a 2 man scramble and will be held Saturday, July 10 at Desert Aire Golf Course. Entry fee is $55 and includes golf, cart, lunch, and prizes. I spoke to the organizers last week and they have some fabulous hole-in-one prizes : a set of Cleveland irons, a Cleveland Driver, a $250 gift card and the big prize , a 7-day, 6-night trip for two including golf in Hawaii!!!

If you have any questions or comments, please email the Rancho Sierra Mens Club at RSmensgolf@aol.com
