Hi Everyone,
Sorry for the delay in newsletters. As all of you who read this (both of you) know, I am usually pretty good at getting the monthly newsletter out by the end of the month. I broke my streak and didn't get one out last month. However, there was a good reason. I wanted to wait until the Rock and Roll Golf Tournament was over so I could post some pictures. They are scattered throughout the newsletter.
I hope everyone has been doing well. I know it has been a tough year, but with the holidays approaching and the economy improving, I am hopeful that things will get better. Everything except my golf game, that is.
With Thanksgiving approaching, I have a lot to be thankful for, including a great family and great employees at the golf course. So, I really have nothing to complain about, even though sometimes I still do.
Enjoy the newsletter and have a great month.
Rock and Roll Golf Tournament Held November 7th
Over forty golfers playing in this year's Rock and Roll Golf Tournaments. Highlights of this tournament include a live broadcast on "The Quake" 93.5 FM radio station and the big boom box on the first tee. This year we also had a putting contest and complementary massages.
This tournment is a coordinated effort between Rancho Sierra Golf Course and High Desert Broadcasting and their station "The Quake." Being our second year together, it went much "smoother" than last year. Everyone said they had a good time.
Many took advantage of the free massages."The golfers were great." noted Tracy Yates. "They all took good care to fix ball marks and divots too. All in all it was a great day!!"
Putting together the tournament is a fair amount of work, and there are a lot of people who deserve recognition. Thanks to Adam, Tracy and Shirley from Rancho Sierra their tireless work. Thanks also to Dave Smith, Joey Chewning, Jim Jucksch and Bobby Griffen from the Mens Club who also helped out watching the par 4's where the closest to the pin contests were being held. In addition, Ashly Griffen did a great job selling beer. Also thanks to Dr Gordon Elder's office for coming out with the massage booth and providing massages for the golfers. The ladies gave massages before and during play. Finally, Jeff and several other gentlemen from High Desert also did a great job.
The tournament winners were Ernie Bridges, Mike Villa, Chris Mozee, and Jim Pyle.
Congratulations, and thank you to everyone for coming out.
News From the Clubhouse
Happy Thanksgiving!!
First off I want to thank Tracy, Adam and John for stepping up and taking over my hours. The course couldn't have been in better hands. Special thanks to Tracy who took on a number of extra tasks, right after getting married two days before! Sorry John for no honeymoon. Thank you from the bottom of my heart guys!! You all deserve a vacation!
Finally, it's been a long time since I've sat down in front of the computer and written to all our customers. First of all, Bob is doing great! We want to thank everyone for their prayers, well wishes and donations to us. They were all a blessing and much appreciated. I know God has a hand in Bob's recovery and he is getting stronger each day. His out look is soooo positive and his frame of mind is great. As for me, well I'm back to work, five days a week.
We will soon have a food barrel for cans in the clubhouse. All cans go to Grace Resource to help feed the hungry. Bring in a can or more to get free range balls. Also we will once again have the toy drive that goes to "Toys 4 Tots." Starting December 1st, Bring in a $10.00 toy and get a discount on your green fees. Please help us meet our goal of filling up the boxes. Every child should have a gift under the tree.
Also, as you probably know, the day after Thanksgiving (November 27th this year) is one of the busiest shopping days of the year. It's also typically quite busy for us at the course. We want everyone to have a great time when they come out to Rancho Sierra, so if you want to be assured of a tee time of your choice, please call the clubhouse (661-946-1080) or use the web site (click here) to book a tee off time.
Also, we will be open Thanksgiving Day but we will close in the early afternoon.
Take care. Have a great Thanksgiving holiday and we hope to see your smiling face soon on the links.
Shirley

We Want Your Ideas!
Speaking of tournaments, we’re looking for your opinions on some of the games we play during Mens Club events. Some of the games we currently play are:
Low Net,
- Stableford,
- Drop two holes,
- Best 9 of 18, Front nine or back nine,
- 7-clubs, Flag tournament, and
- Blind Draw partners.
If there’s a game that you like, let us know.
If there’s a game that you don’t like, let us know.
If there’s a game that we don’t know about or that we have forgotten about, please let us know.
If you’ve played a different game with another Men’s Club, let us know.
We’re also interested in your ideas for two-day tournaments, away tournaments, two man/four man/one man scrambles and partners events.
You can:
- put your suggestion in the box above the computer,
- speak with one of the Mens club officers, or
- email us at RSmensgolf@aol.com.
Your opinions are most welcome and you may remain anonymous if you’d like.
Nomination and Election of Officers
Nominations of Mens Club Officers will be held at the next Mens Club Meeting on Sunday, November 15 at 7:30 am. Nominations will be accepted for President, Vice-President, Secretary/Treasurer, Handicap Chairman, and Tournament Director. Election will be held during the Mens Club Meeting on Sunday, December 12. Here’s your chance to be heard!
Other upcoming events:
- Mid-week 50/50 Tournament on Thursday, December 8.
- Sunday Points Tournament on Sunday, December 12.
- Golfer of the Year Tournament on Sunday, January 10.
Golfer of the Month
You still have two months to qualify for the Golfer of the Year tournament. Give your dollar to the starter during a mens club event and complete your GOM card., If you have the low net score in your flight for that month, you qualify for the Golfer of the Year tournament in January. And don’t be afraid to turn in ANY score regardless of whether you think it’s good enough or not. One member (who shall remain nameless) qualified with a net 70 because no one else turned in a GOM card for that flight that month.
If you have any questions, you can email us at RSMensgolf@aol.com. We’d love to hear from you.

Golf in 2016 Olympics
As you probably heard by now, golf will be in the 2016 Olympics (in Brazil) for the first time in over 100 years. It will be an exciting time for not only American golf, but for the game around the world. Golf is already gaining popularity in China, as shown by last week's HBC Classic which hosted 15 of the world's top 20 golfers, including Tiger and Phil. I think within 20 years golf will become the world's #2 sport, after soccer.
So if you love golf, polish off the driver and get out there. Oh yeah, better start studying a foreign language too.
Have a great month and Thanksgiving holiday. We hope to see you out at Rancho Sierra soon!
