Happy Thanksgiving Everyone,
With the weather unseasonably cool of late, I hope everyone has been keeping warm. I also hope we'll get some more warmer weather soon. However, as they say, happy people keep warm weather within them. Another way to warm up is to exercise - get the blood flowing. In addition, hitting some golf balls or playing a round of golf is more fun than going to the gym. It's low impact. Your out in the fresh air communing with nature (lakes, rough, trees). If you want even more exercise, Rancho Sierra is a perfect walking course. You can finish a 9 hole round, even walking, in a little over an hour.
So spend part of your Thanksgiving holiday having some fun, and avoiding the mall crowds. Bring your friends and have your own mini-Thanksgiving Tournament. We'll take care of you.
We are open Black Friday, so if you over indulged in the turkey and trimmings, be sure to come out and play 9 or 18 holes and get some exercise so you can have room for those delicious left over turkey sandwiches. Please try and make a tee time as we sometimes get very busy the day after Thanksgiving. If it is a spur of the moment decision, call us at (661) 946-1080 and we can tell you how things are going here at the course and if there is room for you by yourself or a group.
The weather certainly hasn't been the best to golf in especially in the mornings, cold and windy and a few days of frost. We have changed the hours of play and are now opening at 7:00 and closing at 5:00. That way if there is frost you probably won't have to wait that long to play.
In the clubhouse we have new ball retrievers, hand warmers and will be purchasing knit caps and sweatshirts in case you forget to bring them along. Stop by the pro shop and check them out.
Please don't forget our food drive. Bring 2 cans of food and get $1.00 off range balls and our Toys-4-Tots donation bring in a $10.00 new unwrapped boys or girls toy and get $10.00 off your green fee. Who wants to see or think of some poor little child not receiving anything for Christmas. Also all the toys and canned food donated stays here in the Antelope Valley.
Remember you can follow us on Twitter and we now have a Facebook page. Check it out.
Here's a little info that is interesting. What is a banana ball? A Bowker? and a Jigger? Tune in next week for the answers.
No not really! A Banana ball is a shot that curves sharply to the right. A Bowker is a shot that appears to be horrible and then hits a tree, a rock, a spectator, etc and bounces back into play. "I would have boggied the hole but I got a bowker. " And finally a Jigger is a utility club once popular for playing chip shots.
Well that is enough knowledge for one newsletter. I will continue with more in December when our next newsletter comes out.
We are starting to see a lot of trees loosing their leaves and Rick and Pedro have the hand blower and the big mower that picks them up all ready to go. Pedro has been seen using the hand blower to clean up the greens in the mornings but right now with the wind it is a non-ending battle.
Don't forget with your busy schedules to stop and unwind with a game of golf by yourself or with a good friend. If they can't come out anyway. Rancho Sierra is a great place to meet some great friends with the same interests. And the staff is always here to greet you with a smile and your favorite beverage.
Take care and smile to a stranger or say hi! Make their day and yours. Shirley
Men's Club News
December 12 is a very important day for the Rancho Sierra Mens Club Members. We have many things happening that day! The first is that we will have a Club Meeting at 8:30 am in the clubhouse. We will discuss the future of the Mens Club and formally elect the officers. In our November meeting, all of the current officers were re-nominated and there were no other nominations. The second is that this is the day of the Sunday Points tournament! To qualify, you need to have earned 250 points during the year. And finally, December 12 is the deadline to renew your Mens Club Membership! We will be deleting members from the SCGA handicap system who have not renewed their membership. Late paying members will be re-instated but they may not have a valid SCGA handicap until Jan 1 or 15.
FALL CLASSIC WINNERS
Congratulations to the winners of the Fall Classic:
1st place - Rob Hargrave and Jerry Gorman
2nd place - Gonzalo Barriga and Red Tona
3rd place - Matt Havens and David Smith
TEE TIME Changes!!!!
Beginning December 5, the Sunday group will be changing their tee time to 9:00 AM to help avoid frost delays. You must check in with the tournament director by 8:50 AM or you may not be entered into the tournament. this is necessary to organize the groups in going out.
Next time you see one of the grounds crew, give them a thank you for all the hard work they put in. The fairways are becoming plush again, the reeds are being removed, and they are currently working on getting the greens back in order.
If you have any questions, you can email us at RSMensgolf@aol.com. We’d love to hear from you.
